MasterCPR to Volunteer at local Saving Strokes Event
2008-04-30
MasterCPR will be volunteering at San Francisco’s annual Saving Strokes event on May 16th to help empower stroke victims. Saving Strokes connects PGA golf professionals with stroke victims in various stages of recovery to provide one-on-one golf instruction. Participants learn to swing the golf clubs and practice techniques such as driving and chipping. The program, which is sponsored by the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association, gives stroke victims the opportunity to rise above their disability and keep physically active.
MasterCPR’s officers and staff will be helping to provide varying levels of support, such as onsite transportation, golf cart escorts from hole-to-hole, and assisting with giving blood pressure tests to assess potential risk factors for strokes. “We want to help out in as many ways as possible,” says Micah Bongberg, VP of Business Development as MasterCPR. “This event is an excellent way for stroke victims to see that their disabilities do not have to hold them back from doing many of the activities that they enjoy. It is a fun way for people to learn the effects of strokes and how to help prevent them.”
Saving Strokes began in 2000, and has been rapidly growing since inception. According to the American Heart Association, more than 400 stroke survivors have participated in the program in Northern California alone. The success of the program has helped to raise awareness about strokes, and to promote active and healthy lifestyles to reduce the risk of strokes.
